CRIMINAL DEFENSE | PERSONAL INJURY | FAMILY LAW
In 2015 I graduated from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, where I received a certificate in Advanced Legal Writing and was elected Chief Justice of the Honor Counsel.
Prior to attending Mercer Law, I graduated from LaGrange College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and attended Bremen High School in Bremen, Georgia.
My experience allows me to see cases in a very different way. Not only have I prosecuted cases and defended civil cases, but I have built cases from the ground up as a police officer.
I began my career in the legal field as a police officer in 2008 after I left LaGrange College. During my years as a police officer, I worked the night shift patrolling the housing authority. During those years I worked as a patrol officer conducting traffic stops, investigating property crimes, building DUI cases, and much more. Most importantly, though, because of the things I saw as a police officer, I learned that I wanted to go to law school to become a criminal defense attorney.
Once in law school, I became involved in many different organizations. It was at one of those meetings that I met an experienced prosecutor. One that gave me a much different perspective on prosecution: The best defense attorney in the world, is a just and honest prosecutor. Essentially, they explained that as a prosecutor, I would be able to dismiss any cases that I believed were wrongly accused. So that is what I did. Beginning my first year in law school, I began working for a District Attorney’s office in middle Georgia. In my last year, I practiced under Georgia’s third-year practice act. During that time, I tried so many cases in front of Judges and Juries, that I had more trial experience in law school than many attorneys have in their entire careers.
After graduating, I clerked for a Superior Court Judge in Macon which gave me perspective in how judges think. I then returned to the District Attorney’s office and worked as a prosecutor of property crimes, narcotics, and fraud. During my time as a prosecutor, I was able to ensure that the only cases that I tried were properly investigated, painstakingly prepared, and thoroughly vetted. I wanted to make sure that if there was poor police work, missing evidence, or a convincing reason to believe that the accused was innocent, that the case would be dismissed. The only problem was, not all cases came to my desk.
So, after 6 years of working for the District Attorney’s office, I wanted to see if I had what it took to be a civil litigator. After being hired by one of the largest Insurers in America, I quickly became skilled at efficiently and effectively resolving cases. During my time as an insurance defense attorney, I represented client’s cases in more than 40 Georgia counties and tried cases to verdict in 15 of those counties. I realized that trying civil cases was as rewarding as trying criminal cases. The most important thing that I learned in my time in civil litigation was the ability to work with and for clients. I took that part of my job incredibly seriously, and I have brought that to private practice. Today, I am a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, The Georgia Bar, and Macon Bar Associations. When not preparing for Court, I love to spend time with my wife and two kids, two dogs, and three cats.
